The Sky's The Limit.

An exciting days sport lined up with plenty of good racing from the UK, Ireland and Meydan. England take on Sri Lanka in the Cricket World Cup and in the Football.. England take on Wales in a Euro 2012 Qualifier.

It's with the Football I start. Wales' main man Gareth Bale is injured and unavailable, with him playing I'd have been much less confident of a win. I'd still have expected an England victory but based on Gareth Bale's performance against Inter Milan when he single handedly tore them apart, anything could have happened though it would have been likely England would have him man-marked by one if not two defenders. As such, England should find this fairly comfortable, they seem to ease through their group stages of every qualifying competition but struggle when the big stage comes along. We'll worry about that later but for today I think England (-1.0) on the Handicap market at 6/5 looks a very backable price, I also think that Jermaine Defoe to score anytime at 11/10 is also a good price (Check the line-up's first as he may not start). He's started to hit some form with Tottenham (scoring twice against Wolves on his penultimate start) and though he sometimes needs a couple of chances to hit the net, he always finds himself in good positions, signs of a top striker.

The cricket will probably be a different story. England face an uphill struggle to beat Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka have posted some brilliant batting scores and bowled out some fairly useful teams such as New Zealand (progressed to Semi-Final beating South Africa yesterday) quite quickly. England on the other hand have not been at their best in some games, losing to lowly teams such as Ireland and Bangladesh (no disrespect intended), but have beaten top teams like South Africa and they drew with India too. England have made the World Cup exciting though as every game has had plenty of drama. 7/4 being offered about them could be a good price if they put their best foot forward but it's not a price I'd want to be taking against an accomplished team like Sri Lanka.

Back to Racing, I have a couple of fancies tomorrow but firstly to yesterdays blog runner.
Frankie Anson was on and off the bridle for plenty of the race, he was staying on well enough when he fell and though I can't say with confidence that he would have been involved late on he was certainly getting better the further they went. He fell after jumping well for the main of the race. The meant a 1pt loss for the blog.

Selection:
Frankie Anson 1pt win @ 9/2. Result - Fell.

Daily Profit: -1pts.
Overall Profit: +2.1pts.

My selections for today come at both Newbury and Meydan:

17:05 Newbury Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race
Broomfield was sent off a short priced favourite when 3rd on debut, he failed to settle that day and it took it's toll in the closing stages after looking the likely winner at the top of the straight. He will be suited by the better ground on breeding and you can expect a bold showing. Another horse well backed on debut was Dark Shadow, sent off 6/4 favourite in a strong looking race. He never really got involved but the ground was a big concern that day, he'll be suited much better by the quicker going at Newbury today. Barry Geraghty takes over from Andrew Tinkler today. He looked green when he dropped away in his first racecourse start and with that run under his belt he should have progressed and is likely to be much better now. Nicky Henderson is in-form right now which can only help.

Selection:
Dark Shadow 1pts win @ 4/1+.

13:50 Meydan Godolphin Mile
The likes of Rileyskeepingfaith are interesting, he relished the step up to 8 furlongs last time and he is unexposed at the trip but that was a slowly run race and it didn't really show whether he actually see's out this trip proper. Conveyance should make it a test and I think he has a chance to hold onto a place, he's had a pipe-opener recently over 6 furlongs, only beaten by the classy Bankable. He'll be fitter for it and should run his race. Red Jazz is short enough at around 9/2 for this having been previously beaten by Premio Loco, he is much worse of the weights with that one and he hasn't, in my eyes atleast, proved that he stays a mile. He also needs to prove he handles the surface, and with so many doubts surrounding him he has to be taken on. Surface specialist Zafeen Speed has to be considered too, he's progressing nicely and may run on for a a place but I'm finding it very difficult to get away from Skysurfers despite his wide draw in 13. He's won from this stall before in good style too when winning a conditons race in February last year. He maybe had one too many runs when finishing 3rd in this race last year, he's had just the one prep race this year and he looked very good. He beat the useful Musir by 1 1/2 lengths and put up a good time in the process. He relished the strong pace and he is likely to get the same sort of upfront speed with Conveyance in here. He cruised into the race nicely and picked up in style, he battled well to. He has the proven qualities to win this race and if he is at his best he should be hard to beat.

Selection:
Skysurfers 1pts win @ 5/1 general.

I've also put up Twice Over as my selection for the Dubai World Cup (see Ante-post advice page). Given a bad draw but I still think he has a very good chance.

Best of luck with your bets today.
