Tuesdays Racing. 22/03/2011.

A 100/1 winner took the first race at Lingfield, it was a messy affair in which four jockeys took a tumble over the first three hurdles. The worst of the falls came from the unfortunate R Greene who was unseated from Diamond Twister at the first, he came out of it with a broken pelvis. I wish him all the best and hope he makes a swift recovery. There wasn't too much to shout about on a pretty average days racing. The one to maybe take out of the day was the winner of the last at Kelso - The Karen Mclintock trained and Graham Lee ridden Noform Richard, he kept up well to take it by 2 1/2 lengths, there should be more to come from him.

On a personal note I'm annoyed at myself for not putting up Powerful Pierre who won race one at Wolverhampton. I deliberated over having him as a selection for a good hour. He'd been racing over 7 and 8 furlongs recently, failing to see out the trip each time, he'd been dropping in the handicap as a result. He was dropped back to 6 furlongs for the first time in a while yesterday. His one run over CD came back in June 2010 where he ran off a mark of 71 and was beaten 3/4 length second. He was rated 61 yesterday with Lee Topliss taking off a further 5lb, well backed before the off and landed the gamble by a head.

The runners on the first day of the blog didn't exactly set the world alight but both were advised e/way and thankfully both held on for 3rd place in their respective races. I was please with the way Freddie Brown settled in the early stages, Jan Faltejsek never really let him get into the race too much but he kept on well from 4 out without ever really threatening. He's likely to be better over further and when he's stepped up in trip he'll again be worth a bet, providing the price is right. I was also happy with the way County Colours settled dropped in trip, he tanked through the race and looked very much the winner turning for home. I was slightly disappointed with the way he finished off the race but there is sure to be a race in him off a similar mark.

Selections:
Freddie Brown 0.5pts e/way @ 8/1+. Result - 3rd @ 10/1. +0.5pts.
County Colours 1pts e/way @ 9/2+. Result - 3rd @ 17/2. +0.6pts.

Daily Profit: +1.1pts.
Overall Profit: +1.1pts.

On to tomorrow - another lacklustre day with very little to fancy.

Henry King should prove hard to beat having won comfortably last time out over 20 furlongs. The extra furlong should suit judging by the way he pulled away from the field late on, back in a 19 length third was Romulus D'artaix who reopposes today on 4lb better terms but that shouldn't be enough to reverse the form. Basford Bob comes here after a staying on effort over 23 furlongs 3 days ago, this may come too quick for him, though he is consistent. Lion On The Prowl will win races over hurdles having won on debut but Not In The Clock is the interesting one for me. He was staying on well behind Kumbeshwar on his penultimate start with next time out winner Moose Moran back in 4th, all on level weights. Kumbeshwar went on to be a neck second in the Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle at the recent Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 133. He disappointed next time out but that was over the minimum trip of 16 furlongs, he goes up to 2m 5f today. The highest rated horse in this race is Henry King who is rated 127 but he has to give 20lb to the selection today and at the likely odds Not In The Clock is definitely worth an e/way flutter with the step up in trip sure to suit.

Selection:
Not In The Clock 1pts e/way @ 6/1+

17:20 Exeter Shop At rewards4racing Novices' Handicap Hurdle
Watch out for money on Noddies Way, rated 60 over staying trips on the flat. He lost his way after 2 years off, not beating a rival in 4 starts on the flat towards the end of last season. He seemed to improve for hurdling having put into two modest efforts to date, he'll improve with racing and maybe for handicap company. He's rated 100 on his debut with Harry Challoner taking off 7lb, in hindsight he's only worth watching to see how he gets on but if the money comes it's worth taking note. Of the others Torran Sound should be winning races but he's a keen, free going sort. He will need to learn to settle if he's to see out this longer trip. Flying Award won well 2 days ago but this may come a bit quickly for him as that wasn't the easiest of races, this is stronger and a 7lb penalty won't help either. Mauricetheathlete landed a gamble when winning last time but top jockey Jason McGuire took over that day and proved the effectiveness of a fully fledged jockey compared to a claimer. The normal jockey, 7lb claimer Mr N Slatter, takes over again today and he may be vunerable under a penalty even if the last race is working out strongly. A slightly more speculative bet is in order in a competitive race and I think Little Eaglet fits the bill. He finished 3rd off a mark of 105 over fences last season and ran  good 4th over hurdles off the same mark. He was easily beaten on his last start of the season in a strong Cheltenham Handicap which has produced no less than 9 winners since with 7 of the other 11 runners filling a place on atleast one occasion since. He switched yards after joining the Heard stablem he showed very little on his recent debut for them but that was over further than he'd previously contested. The drop in trip will suit having run his best race over 23 furlongs, he was also a staying on 3rd over 20 furlongs before that. This 24 will be right towards the end of his stamina limit but he should see it out well enough. He is now rated just 97 having been dropped 7lb for his latest run. If he can recapture old form from this time last year he looks well handicapped at a big price.

Selection:
Little Eaglet 0.5pts e/way @ 33/1 Victor Chandler. Best Odds Guaranteed.

I'd like to give a favourable mention to a blog of a very good tipster, his thoughts are always worth reading and I know I'll be following his blog on a daily basis. http://www.lonesomepundit.wordpress.com/

Best of luck with all your bets today.
